Fast Growing Hedges
Many gardeners prefer to use hedges instead of fences or other manmade barriers. In these cases, a gardener would prefer for the hedge to reach the desired height as soon as possible. The best way for a gardener to achieve this is to use fast growing hedges. There are many types of fast growing hedges, and they come in many sizes and styles.

One type of fast growing hedge is the silky dogwood. This fast growing hedge has white flower clusters in the spring and blue and white fruit in the fall. This deciduous shrub will grow to a mature height of up to twelve feet and obtain a mature spread of six to nine feet. This fast growing hedge is hardy in zones four through eight.

A second type of fast growing hedge is the Cheyenne privet. This fast growing hedge has glossy, deep green foliage that remains until late fall. Preferring full to partial sun, this fast growing hedge will grow into a heavily branched, dense plant, making it a very good windbreak or privacy screen. This fast growing hedge is hardy in zones four through eight.

A third fast growing hedge is the purpleleaf sandcherry. These fast growing hedges produce red foliage in the spring and white flowers in May. In the autumn months, the foliage on these fast growing hedges will turn a deep reddish purple. These fast growing hedges are valued for their beautiful foliage and hardiness. They are hardy in zones four through seven. Fast growing hedges are a perfect addition to any garden.
